AGC-The View Rotterdam

In the Katendrecht district of Rotterdam, construction firm Van Omme & De Groot is building The View – a project consisting of two amazing buildings featuring the abundant use of glass – on behalf of The View of Rotterdam BV. To the west stands the Bay House, featuring 110 luxury apartments. To the east, the other building will be used by Spanish hotel operator Eurostars Hotel Company as hotel featuring188 rooms, a restaurant, a rooftop bar, a terrace, an event space, office and meeting facilities and a wellness centre.

The View is located in the heart of the Katendrecht, a district where various large-scale projects are underway that will make entering the Katendrecht more impressive than ever. AGC Glass is delighted with its contribution to this project. "The View will enrich this location and play a prominent role in the ongoing urban development of the Katendrecht district. The fact that we can contribute to this project by supplying 6,500 m² of glass is of course fantastic," says Key Account Manager Erwin Bruinink.

Glass solutions focusing on insulation

AGC Glass received the order three and a half years ago via its partner, facade expert Facédo Geveltechniek. The buildings in The View required 6,000 m² of insulating glass. AGC's iplus 1.1 was selected, since it is able to deliver abundant natural light, plenty of sun and excellent insulation against cold and heat. For The Box – the rectangular section in the middle of The Bay House that will be laid out as a single enormous 1,000 m² apartment – AGC supplied 500 m² of Energy 72/38, its solar control triple glazing. "AGC Energy keeps the heat out on sunny days while letting in abundant daylight. This product not only prevents overheating, but also significantly reduces energy consumption since less energy is needed to cool the apartment. In addition to its solar control functionality, the glazing also delivers excellent insulating properties. In winter, the glass keeps as much heat as possible indoors – a feature that is greatly appreciated, especially in these times of energy scarcity."

Out of the ordinary

"Glass panels measuring 2700 x 3500 mm were supplied for the ground floor of The Bay House. These are definitely not typical sizes," Bruinink emphasises. "The panels were heat-treated in order to prevent tension within the glass on the ground floor level, where the commercial spaces are located. The result is truly amazing. They really add something extra to this already very special building."
