The Imperial Spa House in Teplice, named in honour of its historic royal patrons like Emperor Franz Joseph I, has long been a landmark of wellness. Today, it continues its legacy by offering preventative and therapeutic treatments for all ages, focusing on musculoskeletal health and fitness through the healing power of local thermal springs.
The challenge
The primary challenge was to design a modern, exclusive spa interior within the confines of an imposing and historic building. The goal was to create a space that felt both luxurious and contemporary, while also being durable and easy to maintain for a high-traffic wellness environment.
The Solution: a symphony of glass, granite, and crystal
The design team opted for a palette of premium materials to create an atmosphere of exclusivity and elegance. The combination of granite, ceramics, Czech crystal, and innovative glass products became the cornerstone of the project.
The walls of the spa and its thermal pool — filled with 36°C spring water — were clad in two key glass products in safety version:
- Lacobel Brown Light SAFE+: Painted glass that provides a sleek, minimalist, and modern look.
- Mirox MNGE SAFE+: Clear, lead-free mirrors that enhance the sense of space and light.
These large-format glass surfaces were installed using the FIX-IN bonding system, which ensured a rapid, dust-free application and comes with a 5-year guarantee.
The result
The use of glossy, seamless glass surfaces successfully infused the historic spa with a striking modern aesthetic. The minimalist character of the glass walls stands in beautiful contrast to the building's rich history, creating a unique environment. This solution not only delivered a luxurious look but also offered the practical benefits of durability and simple maintenance, which are essential for a wellness center. The Imperial Spa now stands as a perfect example of how modern materials can honour and elevate a historic space.
