Low-Carbon EPD
2026-06-09
AGC Glass Europe is proud to announce a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainability and carbon emission reduction. Thanks to the company’s relentless efforts, AGC’s Low-Carbon and Standard Glass now feature unprecedented Global Warming Potential (GWP) validated by third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and recycled content values.

New values for AGC Low-Carbon and Standard Glass
AGC’s Low-Carbon Glass sets a new industry benchmark with an outstanding and improved GWP value of 4.8 kg CO₂ eq./m2 for 4 mm thickness (1), which is 50% lower than the European average (1). This positions AGC’s Low-Carbon Glass at the forefront of available sustainable glass in the European market (2). With a recycled content (3) of more than 60% it is the ideal choice for those committed to environmental responsibility. Available at industrial scale without volume limitations, the Low-Carbon Glass can be laminated or coated with solar control or thermal insulation coatings and can be processed into double and triple glazing units.

In addition, AGC’s standard Planibel float glass now boasts an improved GWP value of 9.8 kg CO₂ eq./m2 for 4 mm thickness (1). This is 5% lower than the European average(1) and 12% lower than some of the least sustainable glass available in Europe (2). With a recycled content (3) of 11.2% it is an excellent choice for construction industry stakeholders who want to act responsibly in the face of environmental challenges. These new values are valid for the entire Planibel range in all countries, including clear, extra-clear and coloured float glass.

Verified and up-to-date EPDs via the EPD Generator
Integrated into AGC’s Glass Configurator, the EPD Generator creates a specific EPD for any selected configuration. This unique and externally verified tool provides the latest EPDs for a significant portion of AGC's product portfolio, now including all updated GWP values.

“At AGC, we are making steady progress in our sustainability roadmap. The new GWP values of our products are a great achievement and are made available to our customers through the EPD Generator, on invoices or via a comprehensive report on request, guaranteeing full transparency,” says Hugues Lefèvre, Product Manager Sustainable & Safety Glass at AGC Glass Europe. “By continuously improving the carbon footprint and recycled content of our products, we are helping to build a sustainable future at the heart of every project,” he concludes.

These innovations empower customers to create projects that align with the principles of sustainable construction.

(1) Global Warming Potential (GWP) is expressed in kg CO₂eq./m2 for Cradle to Gate (A1-A3) as defined in EN 15804+A2:2019; the average GWP value Cradle to Gate (A1-A3) for architectural glass in Europe was 10,3 kg CO₂eq./m2 for 4 mm thickness in 2025, this value is taken from third-party verified EPD published by each glass producer in Europe for standard clear glass weighted by the estimated volume of glass produced.
(2) For clear glass, based on third-party verified EPD published by each glass producer in Europe valid on 01.06.26.
(3) Recycled Content calculated in respect to ISO 14021, according to the Glass for Europe project position paper on a harmonized definition of recycled content in the flat glass sector, excluding any process and internal cullet.
