Echo – the new interfaculty building at leading Dutch technical university TU Delft – was designed to meet the university’s pressing need for additional classroom space in response to its ever-growing student body.

Echo Building Delft

This energy-generating structure houses a wide variety of rooms catering to a diverse range teaching methods and study styles. As TU Delft’s most sustainable building , it is fully in line with the university’s goal of operating a 100% sustainable campus by 2030.

A healthy building – for people and the planet

While Echo’s design is all about transparency, ensuring maximum daylight inside the building and creating a visual connection to the rest of the campus and the surrounding natural environment, a certain amount of sunlight must nevertheless be kept out in order to prevent excessive heat gain.

Glass facade with solar control coating

Echo’s facade consists entirely of floor-to-ceiling glass panels made of ipasol Neutral 50/27 solar control glass that delivers an optimal indoor climate and a true-colour view of the outside world. Aluminium canopies block direct sunlight, keeping out heat, while creepers grow along cables connecting the canopies, further filtering incoming daylight.
